QQ vs a limp raise

Postby briachek » Wed Jul 13, 2005 10:23 pm

Villain is the same guy as in my other post but before the other hand happened:

forum/viewtopic.php?t=4685

Live 1/2 at the Taj. Villain has about $200 and I have him covered. He is new to the table but the one hand I saw him play, he got very tricky with it.

Villain open limps in UTG+1. 2 more limpers to me and I raise to $15. One caller who has about $70 total and then the Villain raises $40 more. What is your action here?

I didn't look at the other hand because you said this was earlier.

ummm..unless you have some kind of read..this is a fold for me. You might be dominating JJ..but ti's more likely he has AA, KK or AK. Just not a good situation.

Fold. If he is the old rock with the newspaper he has KK, and if he made a move with something else I would be shocked. If he had AA old rock would have smooth called and check raised you all in on the flop.

Sucks that you sit around all freakin day waiting for a good hand, and then have to fold pocket Qs PF to a raise... But, ya gotta do it, especially if he's a rock like you said... At most of my games, that's a push, but that's cause these idiots generally think that the A in ace just stands for allin...

I referenced the other post because I described his play there and didn't feel like putting it in this post.

I did end of folding as there wasn't enough money to chase a set and at worst he is doing it with AK but it would be expensive to find out so I just folded it. This guy was the bane of my existence at the table as he screwed me over in 3 pots, including this one to the tune of over $200.

Most players are idiots and those that arent, you should be able to identify right away. People often don't take the pot sized into account and love to min raise but it doesn't necessarily mean what it normally means online. My suggestion is just play tight and don't get too tricky as people will still pay you off. Always bet at least the pot if not more when trying to protect a hand because people will readily call $15 into a $8 pot chasing a draw.

MVP and RHound would have things to add since they play live pretty often. You can PM them.

I've only played in it 3 times seriously at the taj. I left up over $400 the first time (would have been $800 if someone didn't suck out my AA with A3), won about $65 the second and this one was down $288 due to 4 hands (one major one for $200).
