Limping with AK in EP

Postby kennyg » Fri Jun 03, 2005 11:51 pm

2/4 NL

I'm UTG with AKo. I limp. Folded to the button who has $250. He just joined the table...by the fact he bought in short stacked..i figured him to be a weak player. My opponent (button) raises to $12. Calling station BB calls...and I call. (I thought about reraising..but the station changed my mind.)

FLOP $38
A76 rainbow

Station checks, I check

My thinking here is that the station will likely call any decent bet with a part of the flop. I want to checkraise to drive him out (or at least make him pay), also I figure the preflop raiser would just call my bet instead of raise.

Preflop raiser bets $10. lol.

Calling station does what he does best and calls. I raise to $40.

Preflop raiser minimum raises to $70. It worries me for a second..but I think this guy probably has AQ or AK and thinks he is good. Station folds.

I move all-in for the rest of his money. He calls quickly.

He rivers a queen with AQ and takes it down.

"nice play kg!, unbelievable" says the winner.

Somehow I smile and think....damn..lol. :)

I just thought this was the perfect example of how to play AK in EP. Hope you enjoyed.

I know this was perfectly played :), but..

How does he call you rereraise all-in, given you've actually represented a hand far stronger?! I think that level of fish-ocity goes beyond what you could deduce from his play so far.

Did you consider a flat call on the flop then bet 1/2 his stack on the turn and 1/2 on the river?
