Most difficult hand / scenario to play

Postby droqqa » Tue Apr 12, 2005 12:51 pm

My absolute least favorite hand to play is flopped trips out of the blind, with a weak kicker. Especially if there is a flush draw on the board. Too weak / easily dominated to be played fast, and not strong enough to slowplay. Here is one example - but it was my opponent who had the problem in this hand. :D

Feel free to share your least favorite hands!

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (9 handed)

MP2 ($1091)
MP3 ($857.79)
CO ($985)
Hero ($1564.5)
SB ($1153.75)
BB ($1516.75)
UTG ($1002.8)
UTG+1 ($2004)
MP1 ($1555.75)

Preflop: Hero is Button with [7d], [7c]. SB posts a blind of $5.
4 folds, MP3 calls $10, 1 fold, Hero calls $10, SB (poster) completes, BB checks.

Flop: ($40) [3h], [3d], [2s] (4 players)
SB checks, BB checks, MP3 checks, Hero bets $35, SB folds, BB calls $35, MP3 folds.

Turn: ($110) [7h] (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $100, BB calls $100.

River: ($310) [Td] (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $300, BB calls $300.

Final Pot: $910

Results in white below:
BB has 3c 8s (three of a kind, threes).
Hero has 7d 7c (full house, sevens full of threes).
Outcome: Hero wins $910.

Nice turn for you, but I really dont like the way the BB played this hand, if it is me I raise the flop. My hand is to beatable, a $35 bet is pretty small compared to the stacks here I would have raised to $100, if someone calls. I check the turn which will most likely confuse my opponant, trying to figure out if I am trying to check raise again or not. If they lead out a strong bet, I consider folding.

Agreed, the BB sucked in that hand. No way you can check/call all the way with that.

My personal least favorite situation is when I talk myself into completing the small blind with say A7 and then hit an A on the flop, but not two pair, against 3 opponents. I never know what to do. I'm going to start just folding Axo even in the SB I think. On the other hand, it can also happen with Axs, which I just can't fold from the SB preflop. In any case, yuck yuck yuck.

My second least favorite situation is limping or seeing a free hand from a blind with smallish suited cards and then catching the flush on the turn with several people still in. Especially out of position or from a blind. If I'm best, then everybody will fold, but if I'm not best, I'm going to lose a bunch.

K3nt i wouldnt go as far as to fold Ax from the SB, flopping 2 pair aces up, is a great money maker, especially in low limit Nl games when players cant fold AQ or AJ.

My least favorite position, is being the monkey in the middle. Player 1 bets, player 2 makes a small raise and if player 1 doesnt reraise you are getting odds to call, if player 1 reraises you have to fold. Now what???
