MUPPETTED MY WAY OUT OF A NUT FLUSH...

Postby MVPSPORTS » Mon May 16, 2005 3:59 pm

Costa Rica hand... this was the beginning of a pretty nice downswing in my CR bankroll... I tilted pretty bad after this hand, leading to my Straight-flush chase in another thread...

Thank GOD there were cheap women and beer in CR, or I would have ended up begging for change outside of the Delrey... Plus, I had a GREAT last day, and actually ended up a little for the trip...

I'm at a VERY loose/aggressive table, where no one respects any bets, PF raises are $15+... Basically, a normal live 1/2 NL game...

I'm on the button w/ [Ah] [Qh] ... some MP guy raises the traditional $15... 3 callers... I got great odds, plus these guys are just as likely to call w/ K8 as AK... so I call, buddy of mine calls...

pot is $90... flop is [5h] [9h] [5s] ... My buddy checks... PF raiser bets another $15... Same as before... call call call... I'm again getting SUPER odds to call...

pot is about $180... turn [Jh] ... WOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO....

Alll of a sudden, my buddy bets $50... ??? Was he chasing the flush too...??? Same deal as before... call call call... it gets to me, and I'm trying to figure out what the hell these guys are playing with... I assume my friend has 5something... possibly J5 (he was in a blind)... I don't mind losing the money to him... at least I'll get a couple dances and drinks out of it... I think there's at least one other guy on the 5... maybe another flush draw, and a couple bozos who are total calling stations... the kind of guy who thinks his A9 or 44 is gonna hold up...

At this point, I'm already counting my money, and I call (which I think was, by far, the worst mistake I'd made to that point...)...

pot is about a zillion dollars, I'm figuring out how many Coronas it'll buy (even though they taste like cat pee, it's better than their local beers), when the dreaded [Jc] hits...

I would love to curse, but this server bleeps everything out... so CRAP...

They start betting like crazy people, and I have to throw away my GD hand... Turns out one had a 10 high flush (would've taken all his money), one had J4 (the PF raiser), another had J10o (what an ass), and my buddy had A5, and was screaming that these aholes called all those bets with crap... Instead of screaming, I decided to just give away the rest of my money a couple hands later on megatilt (posted on another thread)...

Boy, what a crappy way to lose a ~$900 pot... Obviously my buddy wouldn't have folded, but what are the odds that any of these calling stations would've folded 2pr on the turn to a large raise by me...?

Any thought how to play this better would be appreciated...

crap, i've got to go to costa rica.

it's hard to say exactly what should happen given we don't know the stack sizes...but I think definitely you have to raise big on the turn. the only thing you really have to worry about is that your friend has a boat, and like you said, you have the pseudo-collusion thing going on w/ him anyway.

And if any other jokers call w/ their weak two pair, let them. It's an EV fest. As it was, you were a huge favorite going into the river anyway, so you weren't that bad off given how you played it. I mean those guys hit one-outers.

If you're serious about going to Costa Rica, PM me and I'll give you all the fun details...

As for the play, it was a mostly greed on my part just biting me in the ass... I mean, even with the few incredibly crappy plays I've posted, I still ended several hundred up playing people 10x worse than even me...

to tell you the truth, I dont mind your play here. If you are that sure your buddy has the 5 than 95% of the time one of you guys wins this pot, this was just a crappy river card. Even if you push in here, you are going to lose, so you actually saved yourself money. And could you please ask some of these players to come and play here in San Diego, more fishys is always a good thing.
