Need some help with a new study

Postby iceman5 » Wed Jul 13, 2005 12:22 pm

Im always tinkering with different stratagies and I like to test certain theories by keeping track of how many times certain situations occurred and their results. My last one was tracking all my "sets"

This time I want to know how often a continuation bet gets called. So here is what Im doing. Im playing my normal game. Usually when I raise preflop, Im going to bet the flop (continuation bet)

Anytime I raise preflop, I want to know how often I get called when its heads up and how many time I get called when I bet into 2 guys. If there are more than 2 callers, I dont always bet the flop with unimproved hands so Im not keeping track of that.

The only hands that count are the ones you make a normal raise, and bet 3/4 to full pot like you normally would. If you slowplay or check raise or something like that ..it doenst count.

Im keeping 2 seperate columns for betting into 1 guy and betting into 2 guys.

if the flop is very scary and you dont want to bet, then dont bet..and dont count it at all.

If anyone would like to do this as well, so we can get more figures faster, please do...and report back in this thread in about a week or so. I'll post my results in this thread next week.

So far I have:

1 caller
5 raises and got called 2 times

2 callers
1 raise and got called 1 time

Sounds good. Question. Shouldn't we be also keeping track of win rate, win amount, and loss amount to accurately determine profitabilty for say 1 caller vs 2 caller?

I dont care about all that because its way too player dependant and card dependant. I just want to know how often I get called over the long run.

Ice I see one problem with your study, isnt everyone going to have a different number that is pretty unique based on table image, level of play. For example you and Palman are pretty much polar opposites when it comes to style of play, you are both winning players but since your table image is so much different people are going to react to continuation bets are going to result in very different numbers.

Thats true, but we dont have very many LAGs here so I dont think it will be big problem.

Im not going to be adding all the numbers up and making any conclusions, but imagine if most peoples results are about the same even though they may play different styles.

By the way, did you hear how Palman busted out of the WSOP?

That is a good point, what might work well if you have a decent amount of people giving you numbers is to cross reference what level these games were at. It would be interesting to se e what the difference in calling vs raising is as the levels go up.

I havent read anything from palman in a while. I didnt even know he was at the WSOP, did he buy in or win a satalite??? How did he bust out???

From what I heard (and I have no confirmation so it may have been a joke), he shoved all in on the turn with 22 and obviously 4 overcards on the board and got busted on day 1.

Ok, but I have a databases with ALOT more than 2000 hands. My most recent one has 14000 hands and when I sorted for hands where I raised preflop, bet the flop into 1 or 2 callers..I got like 180 hands. It might have been more than that. Im working from memory.

Then I have to go back and replay each hand to see what happend on the flop..UGH!
