yikes. Anyone get away from this? I don't understand why when I have set over set the other guy always has to have $300 in front of him. Thats twice in a row now! I had no read on this guy...but the way he played his hand I give him a lot of credit.

The converter won't work so I'm just gonna put up the hand history since I'm playing at the moment.

As I have said in a couple of previous posts, without a very good read on my opponant I am usually ok with losing a stack when I hit my set on a non-str8/flush board.

What is so good about the way he played it? Is there something special about it?

He bet 3/4 pot with a set, then re-raised your re-raise smallish (looking for a call), then was delighted to call your all-in. Which part was unusually good?

I'm not criticizing his play, or your post -- just trying to understand. Thanks.

the fact that he led out with a set was great play bon his part. Because he did that...I did not believe he had 66 or KK. If he checkraised me there... or played it in some other way....i might have thought it a much stronger probablity and maybe given him less action...

It's unlikely i would have folded to any bet yes...but by leading out he convinced me that my hand was golden.

Tell me again how you don't lose your stack in this situation? I fail to see it. I think the both of you played that very well. There are just certain hands where you are gonna lose your stack. No way around it. It is part of the game. If he pushes all in right on the flop, are you gonna fold? I wouldn't. You gonna be able to keep all your money out of the pot by the river sitting on a disguised boat? I wouldn't.

As an aside, how would you play this real life hand that happened recently in a home game:

You are LP with black 9's. You raise 3xBB and are called by the button. Flop comes [8h] [Qh] [9h]

Let's say for the sake of argument that you check (or if you like, you bet any amount, but I will tell you that you are called), and Button checks behind you. Now the [Qs] comes off.

What is your play?

Answer later.
