Party Hands of the Day

Postby JJSCOTT2 » Fri May 06, 2005 11:03 am

These are two hands that I played on Party today, I wanted to get some feedback as to how I played them regardless of the outcomes and if anyone would do anything different.

Hand 1:

Villain in this hand has an VP$IP of 88% and PFR of 45% over the 150 hands I have on him, but his WTSD% is about 20%.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (9 handed)

Hero ($53.25)
Button ($3.75)
SB ($50)
BB ($67.9)
UTG ($57.19)
UTG+1 ($26.75)
MP1 ($92)
MP2 ($49.25)
MP3 ($84.43)

Preflop: Hero is CO with [Kc], [Ac]. SB posts a blind of $0.25.
1 fold, UTG+1 raises to $2, 3 folds, Hero raises to $5, 3 folds, UTG+1 calls $3.

Flop: ($10.75) [Qd], [8h], [2c] (2 players)
UTG+1 checks, Hero bets $8, UTG+1 calls $8.

Turn: ($26.75) [4h] (2 players)
UTG+1 checks, Hero bets $15, UTG+1 calls $13.75 (All-In).

River: ($55.50) [Th] (2 players, 1 all-in)

Final Pot: $55.50

On the flop when he didn't lead into me after raising PF, I figured a good size bet would take the pot down. On the turn, I definatley don't think he's slowplaying and want to make him risk his whole stack to continue.

Thoughts?

Results in white below:
UTG+1 has Ts Ad (one pair, tens).
Hero has Kc Ac (high card, ace).
Outcome: UTG+1 wins $54.25. Hero wins $1.25.

Hand 2:

Villain in this hand is somewhat loose PF, has a WTSD% of 36.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $.5 BB (8 handed)

SB ($61.85)
BB ($57.33)
UTG ($46.25)
UTG+1 ($45.38)
MP1 ($46.1)
Hero ($69.85)
CO ($38.05)
Button ($47.25)

Preflop: Hero is MP2 with [Qc], [Qd]. SB posts a blind of $0.25.
UTG calls $0.50, UTG+1 calls $0.50, 1 fold, Hero raises to $3, 4 folds, UTG folds, UTG+1 calls $2.50.

Flop: ($7.25) [3s], [9d], [8c] (2 players)
UTG+1 checks, Hero bets $10, UTG+1 calls $10.

Turn: ($27.25) [5c] (2 players)
UTG+1 checks, Hero bets $35, UTG+1 calls $32.38 (All-In).

River: ($94.63) [Qs] (2 players, 1 all-in)

Final Pot: $94.63

Here on this flop I'm pretty sure I've got the best hand, but knowing it's likely this guy is going to call regardless, I decided to put in a little overbet. After calling the flop, he's either drawing or slowplaying a set. The turn card doesn't look too scary, it only completes a draw if he's holding 6 7 but given that it puts a flush draw out there and me being pretty sure that he's going to call me if he's got any piece of the board, I decide to push it in.

Thoughts?

Results in white below:
UTG+1 has Jh Tc (straight, queen high).
Hero has Qc Qd (three of a kind, queens).
Outcome: UTG+1 wins $92.01. Hero wins $2.61.

Rhound, I tend to agree with your asessment of hand 1 which is why I posted it. I'm thinking to myself after the hand, even if I do have him beat which is only possible by virtue of having him out high-carded, why am I pushing so hard at such a ridiculous hand. So I'm trying to go back and piece together my thought process which was that A.) This guy raises 1 out of every 2 hands, there's no reason for me to give him credit for anything B.) He doesn't follow through unless he hits something C.) I want to isolate him because I like my ability to put him on a hand, thus, the re-raise (I'd say I make a re-raise on AKs about 5-10% of the time, it's not that common). So anyway, I get to the river and yeah, he hits a 10, big surprise whatever. But the point I keep coming back to is that technically, I was right, but then again it doesn't feel right, so I don't know. Hand 2, yep it pretty much sucks, now that I've posted it I kinda realized it was pointless, this guy was gonna call anything, and I knew that getting into the hand, is it annoying that the card that makes me a set of queens makes him a straight? Yes. I guess there's a bunch of ways to have played this hand but I can't think of one that doesn't end up with me getting all in.

#1. I dont know if I like the reraise or not. But if you decide to reraise you should make a real reraise. I reraise to $8. He is aggressive and if he starts folding when he gets reraised it's not good for his image (and he will look stupid). I think he will call and if he folds that's also good.
When he calls on a Q high flop you should be done with the hand. His stats tell me that he should be tight postflop (right?). When he calls on flop he will also call your turn bet (he has invested half his stack). You got unlucky but don't try to push people off their hands. If he will call with AT he will also call with a pair.

#2. Good preflop raise. You make some big bets postflop but if he will call them with jack high it's all good. He hit a 6 outer on river. Nothing you can do
