Playing marginal hands from early/middle position

Postby Jux » Thu Jun 02, 2005 7:26 pm

What do you guys usually do in early/middle position with marginal hands like KJo, KQo, ATo, AJo, KQo, ect? I used to just limp in with them and then fold to any raise, but I'm starting to think that's playing too weak/tight. Now I'm thinking about just not playing these types at all from early/middle position but I'm thinking my table image would be too tight and in turn not get any callers when I raise with good hands. Any input? Thoughts?

KJ - fold
KQ - fold in ep, maybe play for raise or limp depending on the table
AT - fold in ep, maybe play for raise or limp depending on the table
AJ - fold in ep, maybe play for raise or limp depending on the table

I really only play them if I can either control the hand or its likely not to be raised behind me. Don't put much stock in these hands in a big pot. I'd rather play and raise with a suited connector lik 89s then to play or raise most of these hands.

Most players don't play attention that you are that tight and the ones that do, you should know they are good enough by their PT stats, assuming you use pt and gt+.

Jux... I'm tighter than a witch's ****, and I get calls w/ my monsters just fine... I don't play any of them in EP... I'll usually limp AJo or KQo in MP, but will fold to a raise, and probably won't play A10...

The problem you're gonna come across is what seems like your best scenario... You have KJ flop a K, bet it and get called... now where do you stand...? Or bet it and get raised... I'm usually not smart enough to get myself out of trouble, so instead I try my best to KEEP myself out of it...

Jux... this is EXACTLY why I don't like playing these hands... This is also EXACTLY why I should listen to my own damned advice... This is from a tournament, so don't think I'm rich or anything... Sorry bout the converter... Apparently it doesn't work on tourneys...

I have got to agree with the other guys here, all of these hands are ridiculously standard folds for me in EP, may be worth a limp or raise in later positions given table texture but it's really all conditional from there on out.
