Protecting your hand / getting full value

Postby dybaar » Fri Apr 08, 2005 12:44 pm

Looking for some feedback on how you guys decide where the balance is between protecting your hand and getting full value out of it. It seems I need to improve on this because when I do get a monster hand, especially pre-flop, I am putting too much pressure on the pot (3-4x the BB) and only pick up the blinds or win a small pot. Ideas on getting the best value of premium hands? thanks

dy... I think it's situational toward who your playing and the cards on the table (ie... flopping a set w/ 2 suited on the flop, I'll bet out instead of slowplaying...)... Preflop, I'll raise big hands (KK,AA,AKs), and will get callers about 50%... That also depends some on your table image... A couple days ago, there was a thread about limping AA,KK in EP, trying to reraise someone and have them committed, plus taking the dead money in between, and that has worked for me the couple times I've tried it...

Raising preflop to 3-4BBs is not putting too much pressure on anyone. If everyone folds it because they have junk or are playing tight. If this keeps happening, keep raising until it stops.

Raise with hands you wouldnt normally raise with and then show when they fold.

If everybody was able to make a living off of their hobbies the world would be a much better place.
