TT - recent NL hand

Postby Felonius_Monk » Thu Jul 07, 2005 4:53 am

Hi all,

Been playing some 100NL recently just to break up the usual PLO stuff. Been a bit out of practice :D though I am winning so far....

This hand was one I screwed up pretty badly at Gaming Club lately. Any views are welcome, I'll put at the end where I thought I went wrong.

Table is pretty passive, a few big pots but not especially loose. I don't have great reads on anyone. Dealt TT 3 off the button, and decide to make it $4. Cutoff and SB call.

Flop comes 984 with two hearts, I bet $13 or so, both players call. Turn brings an offsuit 3. Good, still in decent shape. I bet pot ($50 or so), cutoff, who has been slightly loose so far but who I haven't seen do anything unusual, raises all in for another $30. SB folds, I call. River blanks off and he shows KK to take it.

Now, I think when I get called in TWO spots off the flop, I have to assume that there's at least one draw out there, the possibility of A9 or something, and/or the possibility of someone lying in wait with a monster (98, a set or (I guess) a bigger overpair, though the latter seems less likely). So on the turn, I can charge the draws enough by betting less than the pot, and covering myself in case one of the two callers is slow-playing a big hand. Perhaps I should have bet $30 into the $50 pot, which should be enough to remove draws or at least charge them a premium, and then I've "only" put $50 of my stack in, and if I get raised here I can muck the hand without feeling pot committed.

As it was, I think I should have folded for the last $30 bet anyhow, but the final pot was going to be about $215 and even if i AM behind I hit my T often enough to get $10 of the $30 call back in EV terms, and there's always the chance he might be bluffing/semi-bluffing a draw, or playing two pair (against which I'd have 8 outs). So, perhaps calling the last $30 is not too bad - in EV terms I probably get something like $20 value for the call. However, if I manufactured the pot size to leave $50 rather than $30 left in my stack, it makes it a lot easier to get away from the hand in case one of these passive players suddenly decide to raise.

Thoughts?
