Set of Jacks meets some unexpected resistance

Postby DaHitDogg » Mon Apr 18, 2005 6:17 pm

NL100 on Party (6-max) versus a LAG. My stats on him after 90 hands are 61/13.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (6 max, 4 handed)

UTG ($203)
Button ($67.3)
Hero ($122.1)
BB ($110.7)

Preflop: Hero is SB with [Jc], [Jd]. Hero posts a blind of $0.5.
1 fold, Button calls $1, Hero (poster) raises to $4.5, BB calls $4, Button calls $4.

Flop: ($15) [5d], [6s], [3d] (3 players)
Hero bets $11, BB calls $11, Button folds.

Turn: ($37) [Jh] (2 players)
Hero bets $20, BB raises to $40, Hero calls $86.10 (All-In), BB calls $54.70 (All-In).

River: ($237.80) [Td] (2 players, 2 all-in)

Final Pot: $237.80

Results in white below:
BB has 4h 7h (straight, seven high).
Hero has Jc Jd (three of a kind, jacks).
Outcome: BB wins $226.40. Hero wins $11.40.

Any guesses as to Villian's hand's? Anybody play this any differently?

I think it was pretty clear he either had the straight or a smaller set. You see this sort of play all the time at the lower limits... people calling big raises with utter crap. Unfortunately for you this is exactly why people call big raises with utter crap. I think you played it fine. I would have lost all my money with that holding and that board. There is just no way you put someone on those rags. Tough luck.

Since I'm so brilliant, I will agree w/ the two above me... I was definitely thinking another set, maybe an A high flush draw... Just a little more proof that Party is run by Satan...

Ya I really thought he had a small set and that I sucked out with the 3rd Jack. Oh well - I can't imagine not going broke on this one.

BTW, if anyone cares I started a journal in the, you guessed it journal forum. The first entries are pretty long, but moderately intersting I think. Take a look if you have a few.
