SET vs Tighty ($1/$2 FR Cake)

Postby Zuccala » Tue Apr 22, 2008 9:44 pm

Reads:

Villian is VERY tight. if he raises he is strong. Doesnt play many pots.

Stacks:

Hero: $300 (UTG)

Villian: $350 (BB)

I limp [5s][5c] UTG, all folds to Villian who checks

flop: [3c][7d][5h] $5.50

Villian bets $2.50, I raise to $8, Villian calls

turn: [Ad] $21.50

Villian checks, Hero bets $15, Villan raises $45, Hero calls $30

river: [Kc] $111.50

Villian bets $75, Hero Calls

Analysis:

He is in the BB so anything is possible for his hand, 64 is and so is 42 as he made a blocking bet on flop then CR turn as it hit. So I put him on 42,64,A7A3,A5, on turn after he CR my bet. So i just called to see what the river brought. This was if it pairs I will still get it all in and if it doesn ot pair I will just call.

If this was just a regular player I would have just jammed the turn, since he is tight I just called. Thoughts???

He took a pretty strong line here, lead flop, C/R turn.

Since the pot is unraised you are definately right he could have alot of things, but I think calling is fine here, given your opponent is so tight.

Actually if he raised preflop he would probably be 50/50 with a nits range as he has middle set and the nit would have top or bottom set most of the time.

As it is, I think hero is in better shape vs a nit. The nit can still have top or bottom set but can also have A7, 75, 73 or a straight with a slight possibilty of something else if hes bluffing or something.

Without doing the math of how many combos of each hand there are, I think hero is in better shape than he wouldve been by raising here.

Well, we have no way of knowing how he plays 73. We just are pretty sure he has 2 pair or better.
