JJ w/ sidepot

Postby laynegt » Sun Jun 05, 2005 5:01 pm

I don't really get in big pots w/ JJ w/out a set...but there's always a first time. no reads on UTG or SB.

Ultimate Bet No-Limit Hold'em, $.25 BB (8 handed)

SB ($1.85)
BB ($53.55)
UTG ($24.75)
UTG+1 ($25.25)
Hero ($24.65)
MP2 ($25.35)
CO ($34.55)
Button ($12.55)

Preflop: Hero is MP1 with [Jc], [Jd].
UTG raises to $0.85, 1 fold, Hero calls $0.85, 3 folds, SB raises $1.85 all-in. UTG calls $1, Hero calls $1.

Kind of an oky-dok call on the end here. Thought about moving in since I figured utg would've moved in w/ a big hand...but realized I only have JJ, let's see a flop. I figure the SB has anything from Axs up. utg probably has AK...don't they always?

Flop: ($5.80, $0) [9s], [7h], [6d] (2 players)
UTG bets $5.8, Hero calls $5.80.

Good flop...is calling too passive? really didn't want to commit all my chips just yet w/ just JJ (recurring theme)...was just gonna wait and see what he does on the turn to find out if he has a real hand. thank goodness for position.

Turn: ($5.80, $11.60) [4d] (2 players)
UTG bets $3, Hero raises $17 all-in..

ok, utg makes a super weak bet into a big pot (w/ a sidepot) so I'm 84% sure I have the best hand here and move in. he folds after a few seconds.

River: ($5.80, $17.60) [8s]

Results in white below:
SB shows KK, wins main pot $5.80.
Hero wins side pot $17.60.

So I think I played it ok...the sidepot really did not effect my thinking except to gauge the weakness of utg's turn bet. Thoughts?
