Stop and Gos

Postby rdale » Tue Jun 14, 2005 3:52 pm

I don't know why I run them.... I'm not really fond of the play, I think leading with a set is usually the most profitable play, and yet I still stop and go.

I don't remember the stack sizes I think the two opponents hand 60-70 and I had about 120.

The current PT database has both opponents listed as calling stations, I only think of one of them as a LP, UTG I consider a TPA, he is a consistent winner.

.25/50 6 handed Prima
UTG limps, I limp black tens, the button min raises, BB calls, UTG calls, I call.

Flop $4.25
[5s] [2d] [Th]
Checks to the button, he bets $2, BB calls, UTG calls, I call

Turn $12.25
[5s] [2d] [Th] [8s]
I lead for $10, button calls, UTG calls.

River $42.25
[5s] [2d] [Th] [8s] [9s]

Well that wasn't the card I wanted as ATs might be in there, and I don't want to check it down either way as the button may try to steal. But two draws have hit and I lead the turn so I bet $15. Both opponents call, final pot $84.25.

I think leading the flop, pushing the turn would have yeilded the same final pot result and kept me from having to debate the correct value/blocking bet.

Hand 2 .25/.50 NL 4 handed:
I'm sick about this stop and go against a PT and my own analysis of a TPA. I don't remember the stack sizes I have TPA stacked though.

CO limps, I raise black eights to 2.50, TPA BB smooth calls, CO mucks.

Flop $5.50
[8h] [3c] [As]
woo hoo I spiked a set heads up. I check BB bets $5.50 I smooth call.

Turn $16.50
[8h] [3c] [As] [Td]

I lead for $5, as what I really want to do is induce AK AQ to come over the top of me, so that I can start to set the pot up for stacking off on the river, TPA smooth calls :(

River $26.50
[8h] [3c] [As] [Td] [6h]
I figure he has gone into check call mode, but probably won't call all in. I bet about $15 or 2/3 pot which I thought was a very reasonable value bet, which he called, final pot $54.50.

I think leading every street for the pot was the play, and that I bungled this big hand really badly at the flop and turn, I'm only really happy with my river play. I think I could have probably took his stack. I was also probably a little gunshy as every set I had got cracked for a week or so, or at least it seemed that way :)
