String bet??

Postby Rhound50 » Thu Mar 17, 2005 3:12 am

I dont know if this is the correct section for this question, if it is not feel free to move it.

A question came up today about what is a string bet and I was hoping someone could help me clarify, the string bet rule. Here is the sitaution. Player A bets player 2 grabs handfull of chips cuts out twice what player A had bet, than says raise. He has a few more chips is his hand and another stack behind him. He than says I'm all-in?? String bet??? I was under the impression that if you put chips out to raise and dont say raise ahead of time you are limiited in your raise to the chips in you hand.

Bit of a tricky situation. Try to find out what his actual intent was. In this case, I think he was trying to get his player to give off a tell. That is warranted by his actions.

So in that case I would think the ruling would be that he had to raise what he cut-down originally.

Leafs this guy wasn't good enough to make this play inteniotnally, IMO. He was going to raise and then realized that his opponant had bet $70 and he only had $160 in front of him so he said all in. Though this is a good lesson for any live NL player, first off always say raise, and before you do anything with your chips decide how much you want to raise. I talked to the dealer after the hand and he thought it was a string. I wasn't involved in the hand so nothing was said during the hand, but if it had been against me I would have called string.

Did he announce Raise, put in those chips INTO the pot, and then reach for more? Or did he just put the chips out right in front of him while he was still thinking? If it's the latter I would say it's okay since he clearly announced his action and didn't put chips into the pot on two separate occasions.
