As Aisthesis I’m reading Harrington right now. He describes something he calls The Squeeze Play. It is that someone raises, a caller, and then the play is to put in a big reraise if you think the raiser and the caller are weak.
Its a tournament play but I have thought about doing it in cash game. And then yesterday I played a hand where a guy raised minimum, I called with T8s, and the button and the SB called. There were 9BB in the pot when the big blind raised 12BB. We all folded. After the hand I watched him play and he was very lag and I’m almost sure he didn’t have anything in that hand. I thought it was a great play, because it was obvious that no one had a strong hand.
I have done the math (12 / (12+9) and if the raiser and the callers fold more than 58% of the time his play is +EV. And I think we fold more than that. And sometimes when he is called he will hit the flop hard and if he doesn’t he can win the pot with a continuation bet. And it’s good for his image. The only bad thing is that if the continuation bet is called he risked 25-35BB to win 9BB. But this will rarely happen and the play is still +EV.
I don’t know what the point of this post is. Just thinking out loud. Oh, and I wanted to hear what other think of his play and the play in general...
