A6 in the BB

Postby Kalle » Fri Apr 15, 2005 7:24 am

I play tight, and I play more hands in the blinds than I do in other positions.
This is a line I often take regardless of what limit I play. It works better at higher limits than this, where the players are more tight. What do you think?
And what would you do on river? check-fold, check-call (how much will you call?), blocking bet and call his raise, blocking bet and fold (as I did), bigger bet?

gotta check the river there. That way he'll probably only put a value bet out if he has you beat....or you might induce a bluff and you can call.

Though..I doubt he was bluffing on the river..given that he only mininum raised you.

On a side note...I understand your thinking..but I think there are too many people in the hand to bet that middle pair out of position. If you had a draw along with it, I might change my mind.

Kenny... sometimes I'll bet out middle pair to see where I am, and to hope everyone folds if there's a scare card... I think that's what kalle was doing, and probably would've check-folded the turn, but tripped the turn and bet out again... not sure if that's true, but I may have played it like that... I agree though that I would've checked the river...

I have been known to do the same thing MVP but the difference is I dont usually make that bet into more than 2 players. The problem here is that with 5 players in the hand there is a pretty good chance someone has a J. In which case they call or raise, they also may make the same play here with a flush draw and its hard to tell which is which. Since you dont have the A or 6 of clubs your 5 outter is really a 3 outter unless you go runner boat.

I think Rhound brings up a very good point with the 3 outer. It's like betting a gutshot draw when there are two of the same suit on the board.
And I got 3 callers, when I actually hoped to win the pot on flop. The play didn't work the way it was supposed to.

I should have checked the river. I dont know why the hand converter doesnt tell but he actually showed his hand on river. He had J8s.
I wanted to tell him how bad his play was but that would just make me look stupid since his play actually worked (and there is no reason to educate opponents). He offered me 4-1 on my river call and I probably should have called. But I refuse to pay of flush chasers and his raise just screamed value bet.
