Too clever by half?

Postby excession » Thu May 26, 2005 12:11 pm

Ok hand last night on $100 tables - I am newish to table and full-stacked. Villain has been around for long enough for me to get some stats on him and has maybe $120. He is pretty solid and raises only 3% of hands. Agression is in the 2-3 range.

I am in BB he is in SB.

I have [Ac][Kd]

MP limper. A loosish LP raiser rasies to $3. Villain completes. I call (I tend not to re-raise AKo here esp with the tight guy calling a raise). MP limper folds. $10 in pot.

Flop [Ad] [8d] [2h]

Nice TPTK and Nut flush draw.

Villain checks. I bet $10. LP raiser folds. Villain calls. Pot $30.

Turn [4d] . Flush.

OK I have the nuts.

I put villain on a big pair (very probably aces which means a set) or AK.

He bets $10. I figure a probe bet. I also figure that I can extract at least another $30 out of him on the river with a flat call here and min raise on river but that he will lay it down to any raise now if he hasn't flushed. I call. Pot $50.

Turn is [4h] . Board is paired. He pushes in for my remaining $76. Easy fold? (and dreadful push - I would have called at least $25 to see the set probably) or is he repping the top flush and using the paired board as a scare card?

That thwack you can hear is the sound of me banging my head off the table saying 'repeat after me - I will not slowplay the nut flush on the turn when I put my opponent on a set)..

First off, I hope the [2h] on the flop was the [2d] or you need more help on your poker reading skills.

If you really respect the raiser, I think that is a disciplined fold because what else could you be beating? He wouldn't play AK this way and there is nothing else for him to have since you have the [Kd]

edit: he might have [Qd]Qx but I would still think he has AA. Don't slowplay against someone you believe has a set. They are likely to pay you off anyway.
