$200 Max NLH on UB.
I sit at this table and wait to post my BB, whereupon I pick up the Ac-Qh. It folds to a MP player, who limps, and then it folds to the SB, who makes it $8 to go. I call, as does the limper.
Pot: $24
Board: 6[d] 2[s] A[d]
The SB leads for $24. Thoughts? I decided to just call. A re-raise is very expensive and if he is betting a high pocket pair this has to slow him down. The MP limper folds.
Pot: $72
Board: 6[d] 2[s] A[d] T[s]
SB moves all in for $154. What the f*ck? At this point I absolutely hate the position I'm in but at the same time I can't put this guy on flopping a set and I don't see why he would overbet the pot with something like A-K. Thoughts?
Trouble hand #2. Within 2 rounds I pick up Q-Q UTG. I make it $6 to go.
*aside* I'm sure there are many who will be critical of this amount, but it has been my experience on these tables that if they will call $6 they would call $8. The one difference is that once you get a caller or two other people are more likely to get in on the pot. The tables at this level on UB are quite tight about calling raises though, so this is rarely a problem (and when it is I change the amount)*end aside*
UTG+1 calls, UTG+2 calls, and the BB calls.
Flop: K[d]-6[h]-2[s]
Pot: $25
The BB checks, the flop looks weak but I think this is a poor spot to get too aggressive with my Q-Q so I check as well. UTG+1 checks, UTG+2 checks and we see a turn.
Board: K[d]-6[h]-2[s]-K[h]
Pot: $25
The BB checks and at this point I figure that my queens have to be good so I fire out a $20 bet. UTG+1 folds, UTG+2 makes it $65 straight, and the BB folds. Again, what the f*ck? He checks the flop, IN POSITION, and then raises me on the turn? He has just under $25 behind that raise. His play doesn't make sense at all because why not bet the flop with top pair in position? Why check a pocket pair lower than mine in position after being checked to? I was so stumped I actually ran out of time thinking about this one, but I'd appreciate your thoughts. The only think I can think is that he flopped a set and thought he was being cute slowplaying it on a rainbow board. It doesn't make sense that anyone passive enough to check TP with some random kicker (Q, J, 10 being the likely suspects) on the flop is going to be aggressive enough on the turn to fire out a big raise. Someone with A-Qs, A-Js, A-10s that picked up a heart draw crossed my mind as well.
