Two 25NL hands

Postby TightWad » Tue Feb 22, 2005 9:18 am

What's up, NL-gurus,

Here's a couple hands from my 25NL session today. Both share a very similar trait, aside from me losing most or all of my stack. Even though I was "unlucky" to run into two sets, I still think I could've played both hands better. Especially the second.

Hand 1:

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (10 handed)

MP3 =#A500AF(Bad Guy)/ ($25.55)
CO ($12.75)
Button ($12.5)
Hero ($30.25)
BB ($24.29)
UTG =#A500AF(Other Guy)/ ($20.35)
UTG+1 ($26.56)
UTG+2 ($9)
MP1 ($37.97)
MP2 ($32.6)

Preflop: Hero is SB with [Ts], [Ks]. Hero posts a blind of $0.25.
UTG =#A500AF(Other Guy)/ calls $0.50, 3 folds, MP2 calls $0.50, MP3 =#A500AF(Bad Guy)/ calls $0.50, 2 folds, Hero (poster) completes, BB checks.

Flop: ($2.50) [2s], [9d], [Th] (5 players)
Hero bets $2.5, BB folds, Other Guy calls $2.50, MP2 folds, Bad Guy calls $2.50.

Turn: ($10) [Kd] (3 players)
Hero bets $8, Other Guy calls $8, Bad Guy calls $8.

River: ($34) [7c] (3 players)
Hero bets $15, Other Guy calls $9.35 (All-In), Bad Guy calls $14.55 (All-In).

Final Pot: $72.90

Results in white below:
Hero has Ts Ks (two pair, kings and tens).
Other Guy has Kh Jh (one pair, kings).
Bad Guy has Tc Td (three of a kind, tens).
Outcome: Bad Guy wins $72.45. Hero wins $0.45.

I think I mighta used the converter wrong, but we'll see. My main problem on this hand was whether I should have been more worried about either a set or a straight after having my fairly large turn-bet called by both opponents. Should I have checked the river? Smaller bet on the turn? Then again, even had I checked the river, I'm not sure I could've folded for the last bet...

Hand 2:

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (10 handed)

UTG ($69.45)
UTG+1 =#A500AF(Bad Guy)/ ($12.75)
UTG+2 ($13.85)
Hero ($25)
MP2 ($21.79)
MP3 ($24.5)
CO ($27.86)
Button ($9.5)
SB ($37.47)
BB ($31.6)

Preflop: Hero is MP1 with [Jc], [Kh]. SB posts a blind of $0.25.
UTG calls $0.50, UTG+1 =#A500AF(Bad Guy)/ calls $0.50, 1 fold, Hero calls $0.50, 5 folds, BB checks.

Flop: ($2.25) [9c], [Jd], [5h] (4 players)
BB checks, UTG checks, Bad Guy checks, Hero bets $2, BB folds, UTG folds, Bad Guy calls $2.

Turn: ($6.25) [As] (2 players)
Bad Guy checks, Hero checks.

River: ($6.25) [Ks] (2 players)
Bad Guy bets $2.5, Hero raises to $6, Bad Guy calls $7.75 (All-In), Hero calls $4.25.

Final Pot: $26.75

Results in white below:
Bad Guy has 9d 9h (three of a kind, nines).
Hero has Jc Kh (two pair, kings and jacks).
Outcome: Bad Guy wins $26.75.

Buncha problems with this one. I probably should've folded before the flop, but we'll move on. I think I should've bet the turn, where he probably would've check-raised, thus giving me an easy fold. But, I didn't, so I make two pair on the river. Is a raise over-playing it here? What about the call? I think most of the mistakes on this hand were made previous to the river, but I'd like some comments on all rounds.

tough hands...first one, i'd be very nervous betting 8 on a $10 pot and getting 2 calls..You are in early position...tough to get off two pair, but i can't tell you all the times i get kicked in the teeth with 2 pair....usually means there are straights on the board....You had to realize that bad guy was pot committed with the 8 call....

not saying you should necessarily bail there, but there was reason to be nervous...i may have checked on the river bet to see if one guy went all in and another called...that would mean my 2pr was probably no good in that situation with the board as it is....

funny that this badguy played the same hand the exact same way....playernotes are key....

Hand1:
I would have played the hand the same except that I would have checked on the river. The 7 is a somewhat dangerous card because of possible straights and soeone could easily have QJ for a turned straight. Maybe even the set-guy would have checked one the river because of fear of a straight.

Hand2:
Same answer like hand 1. I would have played exactly like you to the river. The A on the turn is s dangerous card for both of you. His bet on the river was so small that I would have called it. Your raise was too much.
