Two 2-pr hands

Postby equus » Tue May 13, 2008 7:05 am

Both are .10/.20 NLHE 6-max on Cake.

Villain was tight-ish pf but this was early at the table so not much of a read.
Hero (19.85 in chips)
Villain (22.17 in chips)

Dealt to Hero: [Jd] [Ks]
2 folds, Hero raises to $0.70, Villain (SB) calls, BB folds.

FLOP: [Jc] [Ac] [4c]
Villain checks, Hero bets $1.60, Villain calls

TURN: [Kh]
Villain checks, Hero bets $4.80, Villain calls

RIVER: [5d]
Villain is all in 15.07, Hero ????

Villain was tight-ish pf...average post flop.
Hero (16.60 in chips) - SB
Villain (23.25 in chips) - BB
Poster (28.20 in chips) - MP (returned from sitting out and posted both blinds)

Dealt to Hero [Td] [8c]
1 fold, Poster checks, 1 fold, Hero calls, Villain checks

FLOP: [Th] [8s] [Qs]
Hero bets $0.70, Villain raises to $2.80, Poster folds, Hero ????
I called.

TURN: [2h]
Hero???? I have $13.50 left.

I checked and Villain bet $5.80, Hero ????

This is a tough spot, it feels like you are beat here but you are getting 2:, this could be a missed draw but it really looks like a slow played hand. Even getting 2:1 I am leaning towards a fold here. I really dont like your flop bet OOP, this is one of those times where you can check and consider folding to a bet.

I really dont like your flop call, in the future you need to make your decision on the flop and not on the turn. Against a weak tightish player I would consider just folding this flop. Either way a call is the worst of the 3 option IMO, on a super drawy board when you are raised by someone in position, raise or fold the flop, I lean toward folding.

In the first hand the fact that you have a pair would make me less likely to want to bet because your hand has showdown value. If you had raised [4d] [5d] I would bet every time heads up hope he folds. In that spot there are a lot of hands he can fold that you have beat. With your moderately strong hand there is nothing he can call with that you are really ahead of.

In the 2nd hand it makes a small difference if there is a made straight possible vs just a draw but really only because there is one more made hand that had you beat. In this spot if the board was KT8ss vs QT8ss your hand play should be very similar, the only difference is in the first spot there are more draws possible.
