He overplayed his JJ, that min raise is weak. If he wants get the pot now he should have pushed. His min raise gets him no info on what you are playin. If he is worried about AA or KK this bet gets him nothing. A lot of players would smooth call his raise with AA or KK and think that they can get all his money after the flop.

Your play, well to say you hit your flop is an understatement. I would have folded to the
$160 raise why? Because you dont want to be in this hand, by calling you are building a huge pot, you dont want to play a huge pot with 36s. The problem here is what happens if you flop a pair and say a gutshot straight draw now you are tempted to call another bet for pot odds. You are growing the pot even more and most likely your at least a 2:1 underdog.

Nice pot though. I bet your opponant was pissed when you turned over 3/6.

I agree -- calling $160 was bad. You are playing for $1000, so you're getting about 6:1 on your call. 63s won't get hit hard often enough to make that worthwhile. If the stacks were deeper, it might be a different story.

You know what, I have to disagree with everyone's comments here.

That guy played the jacks HORRIBLY, which we agree on

But you made I think a brilliant re-raise to try and get him off the hand. I would have been pissed that he only raised the minimum though. It does scream of aces or kings, but you are extremely pot-comitted in my mind.

Actually a similar thing happened with James McManus in the WSOP vs. Annie Duke in case you hadn't read his book.

I dont remember the particulars, but Annie made a 3x BB raise with A8o, McManus made a rookie mistake by string raising with JJ, so he was only allowed to raise the minimum. Annie was of course pissed, but she "had" to call. When the flop came A high, she pushed all in and made him fold.

I don't think the guy w/ JJ played them that bad at all. As his opponent said, he put him on AA or KK which was probably his intention. The call of his re-raise was the misplay. You got lucky and won a huge pot but in the long run that play will lose much more than it wins.

Eagle I think the villian in this case misplaed his hand by reraising the minimum. If he is represeenting KK or AA why not take the pot down right there with a big raise. A $160 raise gives someone with QQ or AK, Or AQ a chance to call and catch. In this case I still dont like the call with 36 your implied odds aren't good enough for you to try to outflop and over pair.

Suhleafs, we aren't arguing with the raise, but with the call of the opponent's min raise. Aquifex started with $1000 and has invested $240, so he isn't anywhere near pot committed.
