Would you make this call?

Postby AlamdeaMike » Sat Jul 09, 2005 10:01 pm

I really hate draws in NL. I think that I had the odds to win this hand and was getting the right price.

Anyone agree or disagree? Good call or not?

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (9 handed)

MP1 ($47.75)
Hero ($48.15)
MP3 ($48)
CO ($59.15)
Button ($69.5)
SB ($46)
BB ($31)
UTG ($57.5)
UTG+1 ($54.55)

Preflop: Hero is MP2 with [Ad], [7d]. SB posts a blind of $0.25.
UTG calls $0.50, 2 folds, Hero calls $0.50, MP3 raises to $1, 4 folds, UTG calls $0.50, Hero calls $0.50.

Flop: ($3.75) [As], [5d], [Td] (3 players)

I had a 30% change to win on the flop. 1.86:1 odds.

Turn: ($154.40) [9c] (3 players, 3 all-in)

River: ($154.40) [5c] (3 players, 3 all-in)

Pot 2: $0.30, between Hero and UTG. > Pot won by UTG ($0.30).
Pot 3: $9.34, returned to UTG.

Results in white below:
UTG has 5s 5h (four of a kind, fives).
Hero has Ad 7d (two pair, aces and fives).

A few hands alter same table I won $3.75 with QQ in the BB. Then this hand was next.

Aside - Things I have learned in 3 years playing HE.

1) The odds of an event happening do not really count and are only useful for calculating the pot odds. (119-1 to flop a flush, 4-1 to bet dealt two suited cards, 303-1 to be dealt AKs, even more [Ah] [Kh] 1326-1 and QQ 201-1)

2) When I bet and I am called I will lose 50% of the time.

3) When I bet and I am raised I am almost always beat.

Now the hand.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (10 handed)

BB ($46.05)
Hero ($41.25)
UTG+1 ($44.6)
UTG+2 ($68.15)
MP1 ($66.25)
MP2 ($47.5)
MP3 ($48.3)
CO ($50.05)
Button ($171.1)
SB ($71.25)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with [Qh], [Qd]. SB posts a blind of $0.25.
Hero raises to $4, UTG+1 calls $4, 8 folds.

Flop: ($8.75) [6h], [Jh], [3h] (2 players)
Hero bets $9, UTG+1 calls $9.

Okay, lets stop here and consider what is going on. Recap. I raise preflop and he calls. What hands would a player call a raise preflop; A wide Varity of hands. Pocket pair or big cards.

The flop is very bad. All one suit and jack high. I bet and he calls. The odds of him flopping a flush are about 10%. If he flopped a flush he would just call. If he was on a draw he would just call. If he had me beat and was worried about the hearts, he would just call.

He must have at least a [Ah] or a [Kh].

What can I beat? Not much. He has to have [As] [Ah] or [Ks] [Kh] or [Ah] [Ks] or [As] [Kh], or [Js] [Jd] (set).

I had been playing live for most of the day and was a little tired. I should not have been playing since my A game was gone to a B- at best. I did consider what he might have and put him on something like [Ah] [Ks].
