Can someone who knows football betting explain to me why?

Everything from "Whats the best place to get a sandwich at Bellagio?" to "Damn, Shana Hiatt is FINE!".

The line in the Dallas/Phiily game opened at 1 1/2 and is now 3. I would say thats significant movement of the line and theres only two reasons to do it. One is when a significant injury occurs after the line is set (which didnt happen here). And the other is to balance the money on both sides. I dont care what that dude said.

Coincidently, moving the line when an injury occurs would also be to balance the money because of they didnt move the line, ALOT of money would go to the tean wh now had the advantage from the injury so it still boils down to balancing money.

So, with Philly losing T.O. and Dallas has Julius Jones coming back from injury, (remember what he did last year after coming off an injury), why is the line moving in Philly's favor even more? I honestly don't get this stuff. I doubt I will bust my football betting cherry week. :(

Because people are betting on Philly. Very simple. That doesnt mean Philly will win, it just means that alot of people think they will and they are betting on them.

One a side note, several years ago, I studied games where the line moved 1 1/2 points or more and I found that if you went against the line swing you would do very well.

In other words if people are betting on Philly, causing the line to rise, you could bet the other way (Dallas) and do pretty well.

yeah, but.

A real live "bookie" usually wont let you make a bet until around friday.

When I began sports betting I called a guy on a wednesday and tried to make a bet, he laughed at me and told me to call him back on friday or saturday.

when I did the line had moved.

Thats because almost all real live bookies are small time and they can get bankrupted if too much money gets bet on one side and they lose. Therefore, they dont want alot of money on the game at several different lines.

If they get too much money on one side, they will call other bookies and try to lay off some of their action to even it up. Dont ask me how I know this
