Canada and USA are the same. The plugs are different than in Europe and are typically polarized, so you will need an adapter. Standard is 110v 60hz cycle.

thanks for the answer ed

for the general knowledge of red:
1. the device has to be able to run with 110/120 volt with 60hz instead of 220volt with 50hz in europe
This is the case with most notebooks and mobile phones etc. If it is not then you have to buy a transformer (which normally doesnt make sense because of the cost)
2. The cable does not fit (of course not! otherwise everybody would be pluggin the wrong devices)
Image is what is used in usa
The swiss power cables look like this

A friend of mine coming from america with a xbox or something (he bought in america) wanted to show it to me. The cable was wrong of course. He went around the corner the a bicycle shop and dragged the pins, although I told him that I thought it might be a bad idea. His brand new xbox ended in fact in a big cloud of smoke, while I couldn't keep from laughing.

i got an adapter (not an extra converter power supply) where you simply plug in the cable.
looks about like this Image

Only use the adapter with devices ready for the other voltage :)
