You said "I am playin 68 in the BB a couple of limpers in front of me. I call flop the nut str8, with two diamonds on board."
If you flop the "nut straight" on the flop(I am assuming you got a flop of 7 5 4), you should try to protect it.
If this is limit, you need to bet here.
If this is NL, I would suggest a pot sized bet or higher(all in? What are the stack sizes at the table?).
If this was an attempt at a check raise, were you sure that the others involved with this pot would bet with a flush draw, what kind of read did you have on these players?
A low straight might get higher connecting cards on the later streets to counterfeit your hand.
For example, someone who always limps with 6 9, because it is his "lucky hand", and the turn brings an 8.
The board pairs on the turn, you lead out and get 3 callers, they could still be on the flush draw, or chasing with 2 pair. Someone could be playing 5 4 suited and just caught the miracle turn card, and just call wanting to keep you in the pot.
Then the board pairs again on the river, and 3 diamonds are now on the board. The perfect situation for the 5 4 s player, I would be putting in my whole stack here, if I were in his shoes, and hope that I am not against the bigger boat (77755)..
You are now facing many full house and flush possibilities.
A bet and a reraise would make me fold in your situation, it could just be A high with 2 pair versus King high(If this were Party), but a boat is not out of the realm of possibility, your straight is probably toast.
Not a bad beat, just unlucky.
I agree that some days the cards will just laugh at you.
All in (short stacked in a MTT) with AA, and called by the big stack with K 4 off.
Flop is J 4 4, and no help from turn and river.
Happy holidays to you as wel!
Last night I stayed up late playing poker with Tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died.
