decided fix up the garage in the house my fiance owns in order to show off my manliness whence I move in.

I spent Wedneday ripping out all the old drywall. The previous owner had 3 layers of drywall, two normal pieces (one closest to the stud and the other the main wall, the middle was cement board) I nearly killed myself tearing this stuff down. Each section had to weigh at least 150-200 pounds. Oh yeah asbestosis FTW probably.

Anyhoo on to my question, is there any point to insulate the exposed frame before redrywalling? It is a single story brick ranch house and there is a black (app. 1/4 inch) thick insulation board. No cotton candy insulation though. Would adding any help at all.

The exposed walls are marked by an X on my lovely pic. I painted in the style of Xaston. Since the are furthest from the actual house I don't know if there is any reason.

I say insulate it - you are prolly gonna be spening alot of time out there and you want to be comfortable.

I work for a production builder, and we dont insulate those walls in our houses, but I would do it in my house, especially if you intend to spend any amount of time in there. Doing two walls with R-13 (cotton candy) really shouldnt cost you too much.

how cold hot does it get where you are? Are you going to be opening the door regularly? are the walls between the house and the garage insulated? What is the extra cost of insulating? Are there vents for a gas water heater?
