Although in a slightly unrelated note there has been some talk that the term "parting shot" derived from a tactic used my archers on horseback. Back in the days of Alexander the Great. Ancient Iranians then called Parthians used a military tactic when needing to retreat from heavy infantry. Which was done while in a full gallop the rider would turn their upper body around (letting go of the reigns) and fire back at the enemy. As a result it was referred to as "the Parthian shot"... Some suggest over the years is had gone from Parthian shot to parting shot.... But again there's really no evidence claming it's fact from going from Parthian shot to parting shot.
