New Cardplayer wtf

Postby Dumb Snowman » Thu Jun 02, 2005 1:03 pm

So I've been reading the new issue... is there anything about poker at all in it? I'll admit that I haven't read EVERYTHING yet, but so far the only things poker related were roy cooke's bankroll thing, whcih wasn't useful in the least to me, and McEvoy's "power play", which basically says, bet a lot when you have a good hand, to drive out marginal hands. Genius.

And what's up with all these articles that might, POSSIBLY take up half a page? Need more room for ads or what? Speaking of ads, I had the fortune to read weienburg's article about them. Wow. What a waste of time. Shapiro's article was sheer crap, as per the usual as of late... oh and guys, apparrently poker is getting pretty big!! Yeah, I wouldn't know that without reading cardplayer.

Okay actually there was one slightly interesting article, about the 'typical' player. But even that was pretty crappy. Is cardplayer getting crappier? Or has it been this way for a long time and I just haven't noticed?

Whatever. Cardplayer wtf...

Cardplayer is definitely getting crappier. As much as I malign it, I still check every two weeks with the dim hope that something good will be in there. Roy Cooke, Jim Brier, Barry T and Rolf Slotboom are generally the only ones I really look forward to. Daniel Negreanu's articles are still interesting, but they seem to have slid a bit as well. The rest is really just a steaming load of horseshit in my opinion.

Yeah, I remember when I used to read ALL the articles. I can't now. I read the first couple sentences, realize that I could be doing something more useful, such as banging my head into the wall, a car, or a window. All of which, would undoubtedly do more for my poker playing than this magazine...

I just read the last paragraph and I think it's about sticking his need into some guy's buttocks.

lol@flopmyflush.

I used to like reading Helmuth's HOTW a lot but he doesn't really write anything interesting anymore. Other than that the feature stories of certain players tend to be a good read. Most of the articles are complete crap though, I would agree with that.

Does anyone read the actual magazine? Is it getting thinner? Everyone writes up one hand and then that's the article.
