Showing your hand

Postby 80Proof » Fri Nov 04, 2005 10:52 pm

I notice that some players show alot of uncalled hands and others never ever EVER show. I've heard arguments for advertising etc and I've heard arguments for keeping your opponent in the dark no matter what. So....what do u do, how often, and why?

Sure do. Live that is. I like to make an image or put people on tilt (only friends). Online there isn't much use.

(caveat, all of my money play happens live, at my home game)

I show hands when I tell people exactly what they had and that I a) had them dominated when I bet big or b) was completly bluffing when I bet big.

I never show them anything in between.

I think that showing mediocre hands and mediocre calls only proves that you are an iffy player.

Showing hand should either prove your rocklike status, your preternatural reading skills or your bluffing balls of steel.

Anything else is a waste of time (and free information).

I usually have the auto-muck button in action but sometimes I'll show a big hand of mine that they've massively out-drawn me on, which I suppose has two potential upsides, lucksack is rewarded/encouraged for goddawful play and their confidence is bolstered and also if I make a big hand in the next few hands, I pay get people to pay me off more than normal, 'cause they think I'm on tilt.

But I can appreciate the showing big hands thing in STT's, then again, whwenever you don't it implies a steal with filth.

No, because rarely means "rarely" dammit, not often, because I don't do it often enough to make it often, but rarely enough to be closer to NO. Jeez, you guys can't figure this stuff out on your own? You gotta make me spell it out of you? Ok, R-A-R-E-L-Y. Less than seldom and infrequently enough to make it statistically insignificant.

Jeez, you guys are so dumb. How the hell can you be making more money than me when you can't even know the difference between rarely and often? MK's farm animals are smarter. They also win more money than me.

I am depressed. <--in the voice of Slim Pickens in Blazing Saddles.

How's that for ball-bustin' dee-fense? 8-)

Molina, it does concern me that they may think when I don't show I'm stealing with filth. However, I rationalize that people remember what they see, and if there is some doubt in their minds, that's all to my good. I don't do it everytime, just very selected times. I do everything possible to not let them see when I'm playing crap. If they do see that, however, it must create even more conflict in their minds. If they're confused, that's even better.

In an SNG, I want people to be watching what I'm doing. If they are watching me, they are scared of me. If they are even nervous, it's an edge. An edge is all Vegas needed to build the Emerald City.

Has it always been? Aw, man, I'm too young to be losing my mind!

I swear, rarely wasn't an option when I first saw this. Was it changed???
