If you tried to play a lot of hands where it is costing $80 to $150 to see a flop, you could not do it on any short bankroll.

That does make a big difference, you didnt say that the game was very agressive preflop. This being the case, I like your choice not to play at all. There are enough good games out there, that I dont see a reason to play a game like this with a bankroll to short to really play.
