Dean Baker is an economic. His basic point is this: the folks who say liberals are "pro-government intervention" and conservatives are "anti-government intervention" are just wrong. Liberals are "pro-government intervention to help poor and working class people" and conservatives are "pro-government intervention to help rich people." A very well argued piece that hits all sorts of important themes that you never hear about.

If you really believe that government should stay out of people's lives, then Baker has a whole long list of policies promoted by Republicans that you need to fight against.

I learned a lot from the book, and had my mind changed on several issues that I had never even considered seriously before. Good stuff.

Norton, Thanks I wasn't sure anyone actually read and attempted to comprehend what I had to say. Beavis and my ex actually have a lot in common, they both have major selective hearing issues. Below is a sample of Beavis reading a post from a one of the "Tree hugginf liberals here, " lets compare and contast what is actually said and what Beavis actaully reads and pays attention to.

THL: "I" really "hate" Bush's handling of the war, he has put our troops and the people of Iraq in a terrible position of dealing with a postwar cleanup without a plan. Even other "republicans" have stopped supporting him.

The only part Beavis actually reads and comments on is what he see's in the quotes: "I Hate Republicans."


All joking aside to me it doesnt make any difference if we had had legal standing to invade Iraq, we have a legal right to do a lot of things but that doesn't make them the right decision. Just because we could legally invade Iraq it was still an awful decision without a good plan and now our troops and the people of Iraq are paying the price for our clusterfuck of a war "plan."

Then we got this BBC article. Pay close attention to the way they spin thier non-statistics:

i mean srsly, wtf kind of survey is this?

Anyways heres the link. The fact they use the 'may not have dis but for the invasion' is the obvious precursor to a twisted statistic that includes vague distant and very indirect/likely unrelated factors in with the invasion. Heres the link. The way its all worded makes it real obvious its probably exxagerated.
