That home, for instance, is a 4500+ sq ft home on the market right now for $390k. The most expensive listing I can find at the moment is a modest home for $500k but comes on 35 acres of farmable land.
Recently I had found a house that I liked (we aren't in the market to buy right now, though) for a house around 3k sq ft with 6 bedrooms, 4 baths, walkout basement, 2 decks and a corner lot for $240k.
I've said it several times that even though I dislike this town, if I was a professional internet poker player, this wouldn't be a half bad place to live. If I didn't have to go outside in the middle of winter, it would be nice. I could live inexpensively but extravagantly compared to other places. Plus there are cheap direct flights to vegas 5 days a week. It wouldn't be half bad.
A couple each earning $40-50k a year, could easily live well around here. We also get a lot of people who have build up some equity from homes in larger cities that move here for the schools when they are ready to have kids. Any small amount of equity you can build up in another more expensive city, would more than likely allow you to buy your house outright here allowing you to live virtually debt free.
My biggest qualms about here is the almost complete lack of culture (unless you count belt buckles and shotguns as culture) and the weather. If you can get past those, it's a decent place to raise a family.
I'm pretty sure that's exactly what rizen's situation is like. Doesn't he live in like Kansas?
