When you find out what really happened please report back.

If what really happened is what you currently understand happened, then definitely report back (after confirming like a zillion different ways) b/c this is truly a weird story.

Im not being cynical. Im just telling you that cops dont just show up like that with a search warrant and then not search the house but take money..but not all the money. Its also very unlikely that they could get a search warrant for online gambling which is not even illegal (unless they are in Washington). Officials in Washington have even said publicly that they have no plans to prosecute anyone for this statute so even that doesnt make sense.

The other details are also pretty hinky but I cant really comment without knowing more, like what is the summons for. Has she seen the actual search warrant or the summons?

ok to sort of wrap this story up..still don't know some details but the update is

apparently the boyfriend did some bookmaking years ago..and is also related to some local mob guy. The cops got a tip that he was involved in it again, went to his job site and told him they had a warrant to search his house ...they told him they could go through the entire house and trash it or he could come clean with his gambling activities...he decided to "tell the truth" to them so there would be no trouble and told the cops that he did gamble , online, NFL stuff on some website but that he was definitely not a bookie nor taking bets of any kind..he even showed them the website and papers he keeps logging in spreads, his wins and losses etc...they believed him apparently but did ask if he had cash on the premises and he told them he had the $1700 mortgage money..they took that (gave him $50 of it to keep) and he did sign something receipt like..and they gave him a summons for court today..he went with a lawyer and pleaded not guilty (she didn't know what the actual crime was he was being charged with) they let him off with a $93 court cost and no probation, nothing..though he did not and will not get his $1700 back..

thats about all I know ..weird...especially the takng his money part...apparently he told them he had the $1700 since they were thinking he had major cash in the house from bookmakng, never thinking they would take it from him...

OK, its much clearer now, but you still dont have the whole story.

1) You dont plead "not guilty" and the whole thing is over. Not possible. Maybe he pled guilty to some minor charge and got deferred adjudication which means hes gets no punishment as long as he stays out of touble for some lenghth of time? That could include forfeiting the money.

2) Maybe he pled "not guilty" and they had the trial right then? It would have to be some very minor misdemeanor charge similar to a traffic charge. He couldve been won, but normally wouldnt have to pay court costs and should get his money back.

Im guessing theres still more to this story including the cops possibly not having a search warrant and bluffing him. Getting a search warrant isnt easy. It would depend on who the tip came from. No way theyre getting a warrant from an anonymous tip.
