On a trip to Lexington with my mom we saw a sign for the Woodford Reserve Distillery, on the way home we stopped by to see what they got. They got bourbon of course it was like Willy Wonka for alcoholics, shots of bourbon for us, on gorgeous grounds surrounded by horse farms. I for a moment remembered why I like Kentucky, simple in the way it is scenic and of course bourbon.

We shall see how the Woodford Coffee works out, I bet it tastes like my Guidance Counslers office smelled.

Some of the most enjoyable drives through the country (if you have to be on a good road) are through the Parkways of Kentucky and through West Virginia. I took the side excursion to the Maker's Mark distillary several years ago but was a little disappointed as the cost of the bourbon there was more than it was at the liquor store which didn't make much sense to me. It was a nice side trip though for the scenary. I did greatly enjoy the Woodford though that I had in Texas. Too bad I can't get anything down here except Southern Comfort which isn't so bad given the alternative of Scottish Whiskey.

Well I will certainly give a shot to some of your suggestions. Perhaps I have just been on the bad end of some really horrible Irish Whiskeys. I don't know if I will be able to get any of the good ones here but I will keep on the lookout. Another thing the cost of the Irish Whiskeys is out of the roof here. I'll write down a couple when I go back to the store and see if you recognize any of them.

soco over scotch... (shudder).

have you tried highland park? it's one of the more affordable quality single malts ($30 where I live) with a really nice, solid flavor. i like talisker, too, but i find the taste a bit more complex (seaweedy?) -- it was an acquired taste for me. talisker with a steak is awesome, but i love it solo now.

Glenlivet 12 is also really easy to drink.
