13 left in tourney, small stack

Postby bkholdem » Fri Jan 06, 2006 1:48 pm

Ring player here. Was in a small buy in tourney online recently. about 1100 entrants top 120 paid. Through a series of good luck events I went from 970t when the blinds were 50K/100K just in the money up to 250,000t and was 11th in chips with 13 left, most had significantly more than me and next above me was twice as much or so. Next pay step up at 10 left. I was in the big blind wiht 250K and had K10off. Folded to small blind who pushes.

At this point I figured to make any difference in pay I need to go with this hand. Even if the 2 players with less than me go out I'm still going to be left with just one blind if I fold off here and don't get a great hand the next hand. My thinking was: I'm very likely behind here but need to go with this hand and hope to get lucky to give myself any real chance of moving up in money. Of course there could be a multi way pot or 2 where 3-4 players go out if I just fold and prey for another orbit but people were playing pretty tight. So I went with the K10. Would this be standard or would it be better to see if I can catch a moster in the sb or a couple prior to the blinds reaching me again if I need to fold off the small blind?

No way I fold there, and I'd also think I'm ahead, although you haven't mentioned what the sb stack was like.

Agreed. You pretty much have to assume this is the best opportunity you're going to have to double up. And like Golden says, there's a pretty good chance you have the best hand here.
