MTT experiment

Postby Martine23 » Fri Nov 12, 2004 9:33 am

After coming to the realization that I cannot consistenly play MTT's and build my BR I have decided that I will be playing only one MTT per day. The buy-ins will range from $20-200. Each day I will give you guys a report on how I faired in my MTT of the day. I will post important hands that I came across that hopefully you guys can give me some good feedback on or even maybe give you guys some ideas for your next MTT. Today might be tough for me to get a MTT in so I will most likely play two on Saturday. Sunday I will post my report for the $200NLHE on Stars, hopefully it will be some good news. Also, all of the MTT reports will be from Stars, that is the only site I am currently playing. Hopefully this will be a good way to get this section of the forum started.

0 for 1 on the day. Actually, I was the first one out of 665 entrants! I had just got done eating my breakfast and brushing my teeth and hadnt settled in when I see there is an all-in in front of me on the first hand with no other raisers and I have KK. I made the call figuring him to be some type of crazed maniac but he had AA. Moving all-in with AA on the first hand in an unopened pot....GENIUS! I promise for a better performance later today.

1 tourney, no cash. -$20

Good Stuff Martine... Maybe I'll start to do the same thing. It will probably be good for me as sometimes I just do really stupid things for no apparent reason and criticism will make me stop. hmmm ?

Well I am sorry to report that this weekend officially sucked for MTT's(it ruled for cash games).

In the $215NLHE at Stars I finished a dissapointing 1246th. In the first hour I could have not been at a better table, I mean these guys were ABSOLUTE fish. I could not pick up one dam hand to play against them. I picked up JJ once in the SB with one MP limper and made it 120 to go with blinds at 15-30, flop was AT3 and I lead out once and he called, we checked it down from there and he had the amazingly strong holding of A9os. I picked up 22 and 33 from EP and had no luck with sets then I was moved right before the first break.

My stack was below average throughout when I picked up 77 on the button and it was folded to me. Blinds were 75-150 and I made it 400 to go. The button who was loose(as in minimum raising with A8os utg), moved all-in(putting me all-in). My stack now had 1880 left, which at this table I felt was enough to work with. The play was just absolutely horrible, so I folded and decided I would live to fight another day.

The very next hand I pick up AA. The big stack directly to my right makes it 350 to go, I reraise to 900 and he calls rather quickly. Flop comes a beauty, J82. He checks it to me, now here I will bet this flop 90% of the time but I am in desparation mode and need to get doubled up on this hand so I give him one more free card. The turn is a T and he bets out 600, I raise my last 395 all-in and he calls with KJ, awesome! Well of course, the river is a king and I am knocked out. Nothing I can do there, got the money in when I was a big favorite and still can't pull it off.

Any thoughts, comments?

55$PLHE-180 entrants-4th place-$720.

I played extremely well this tourney as PLHE is my best game by far. This is my 7/10PLHE cash in a row, including 3 final tables. Most of my hands were straight foward throughout so I don't have any huge ones to explain. I will however say that I have never been reraised throughout the course of a tourament as much as I was tonight. This was often a bad thing cause I would have questionable holding like AJ, 33, QT all in LP. However, the fact that I kept folding to them worked out as I had TT in the BB and the SB raised, I reraised and he moved all-in with 93os! I called and was back in the hunt, that was with 22 people left when I was in 21st place.

The final table was the worst I have ever played at minus one of the best on this site directly to my left(aaaaaaaaa is his name). There was really no contest for me to make top 4 unless I got outdrawn, go figure.

We get down to 4 handed and I am in 4th with like 18k, everyone else is about 60k, blinds are 1-2k. I pick up QdJh utg and make it 6k to go. The SB who is very loose calls and the flop comes AT7 all hearts. He leads out for like 8k and I raise all-in figuring my draw is pretty solid if he is protecting a hand and I might even have the best hand after seeing some of his showdowns. Well he has Jd9h and I am looking awesome to get to 40k and win this thing. The river of course is the 9c and I am knocked out 4th and very dissapointed to get outdrawn like that.

My first successfull tourney report, yay.

Impressive. I have never played a PLHE tourney on Stars, but it sounds like the competition isn't all that tough so I may have to give it a try.

I have been playing 1 MTT a day myself for the past two weeks or so, usually the $10 or the $20 NLHE tourneys. I hit a couple final tables last week but have yet to even get in the money since Thursday. Oh well, maybe things will pick up.

Sorry, I haven't been posting my results because my exits in the tournaments of the past week were too brutal to relive. I have finished three times on or around the bubble this week, so you can only imagine. Today was another solid tournament but this time I finished what I started.

So it is the $20PLO on Stars, 153 entrants pays out $918 to first, nothing special but still worth playing. PLO is not my strongpoint but I am still learning and conisder myself an above average player at it.

I am posting this a few hours after the fact so I can't really give any great hand anylasis.

I can say we got down to 9 and I was the chip leader with 57k, next closest was 37k. I was officially the table bully, not to mention I really was picking up solid hands also. I was constantly raising and picking up pots and was chipping up nicely. My bluffs were being folded to and when I had a hand I was getting called. My two key hands came down to when it was 4 handed.

I pick up AQK7 in the BB and the SB(the other very good player at the table) make a 3xbb raise. I had him covered by 12k, which at the time was not much at all(I forget blinds at the time). I reraise to 48k and he just flat calls. The flop comes KJ8 rainbow and it is checked to me. This really wansnt the best flop for me but I continued my pattern of table bully and bet enough to put him all in, he calls with trip jacks, shit. I wouldnt have made such a large bet if I didn't have the gutshot to save me from trips or two pair so when the ten came on the river I was saved from a final table disaster.

When we got HU I had 200k and the other player had 30k. On the second hand I got him all in with AT72 double suited and he held AT93. He ended up running out a straight on me and he got doubled up. This player was also a very solid player so I really didn't want this to last much longer. About three hands later I pick up 45TJ double suited and limp from the SB, he checked. Flop comes A23 rainbow and I flop the nuts, I check-call the flop bet from him. The turn brought another dreaded 2 and I was immediatly scared out of my mind. But when I checked it to him he lead out for the pot, I realized if he just turned a boat he would most deffinelty had checked behind me or at least put out a bait bet. I reraised the rest of his 8k all-in and he called with AJ98 and was drawing dead to an ace. The river was an 8 and I took down the pot and the win. That was the first time I can honestly say I dominated a tournament. My play throughout the final table was the best I had ever played and it was quite noticeable.

Anyway, tommorow is the big $215NLHE on Stars so hopefully I can have some good news from that, as last week my aces lost to KJ on the river after getting it all-in on the turn.

I like reading your thoughts on all these MTT's guys, keep posting them. But, I also think ifyou have a problem posting brutal finishes, then you should post those over the winning tournaments because you can become less emotional about those bad finishes.

Don't mind hearing about everything...keep posting. :D

After taking a few days off MTTs, I played a couple today. First one I played was a $30 NLHE one on Stars. About 400 entrants, I finished right in the middle. Funny thing is, I caught AA, KK, QQ, and AQ and AK multiple times. Had PF allins at least 5 or 6 times and busted out when I lost a huge pot with AK vs QQ. I tried a different approach in this tourney, instead of playing my premium hands cautiously I tried to push them all as hard as I could preflop. Had mixed results but I must say this is the first and last time I'm coming over the top of a reraise with AQ. All in all pretty disappointing tourney.

Also played the $10 PLO tourney at 2 in the morning on Stars. I was gonna go sleep, but I decided to have some fun and to my surprise I quadrupled up early on a huge hand and was top 5 for most of the tourney. Got down to about 20 and I was still one of the big stacks, but then a failed steal put me as a shortstack. Lost a few key allins against shortstacks where I consistently had more powerful hands and finally went out 13th. Not bad out of a field of 241 but made a pitiful $15 profit. On the bright side, in three PLO tourneys on Stars I have now gotten a 4th, 13th, and 47th out of about 250 people each time. Who knows, maybe I actually know how to play this silly game.

Anyway, I really wanna play the big $500 tourney this Sunday, haven't played any satellites yet. I think I'm gonna spend up to $50 playing satellites to try to get in, as I'm in no position to shell out $530 for one tourney. I'll also try a couple of the FPP tourneys since I have no real use for my FPPs anyway. Anyone qualify in a satellite yet?
