In a cash game the stacks are deep enough that you have to worry about your opponents holdings. With 33 big blinds, if I have AA, I don't give a flying fuck what my opponent's range is, I'm getting the money in.

If the player raising is loose they are more likely to have QJ or KJ or KQ, for instance, and fold to a re-raise. If you just call they can flop a pair and you can nail them.

If the player raising is tight they are more likely to have AK or a big pair and will get the money in pre flop anyway if you re-raise.
Boy, you got me confused with a man who repeats himself.

In position with Aces preflop, you want to isolate this raiser with a small re-raise. Re-raising it to $52k is fine to get some more money in the pot. He'll shove with some hands and call with most. Rarely will he fold for another $28k with $90k+ sitting in the middle. If he folds, he was on complete dung with an EP bluff and you were getting nothing more postflop anyway.

Flop comes down Jack hi with $120k in the pot and you with about $170k in your stack. He'll at least probe it for $40k and you can take it with a shove.

If he checks, he'll fold or check/raise you all-in. But I think the re-raise (a) getting more money in the pot (b) forces him to probe when he hits the flop out of position and (c) turns this into a 3 card hand more times that not.

I don't hate the way you played it. I've done it and the results have been grand, but with the lead and a lot of chips in the middle of the table, greed loses at worst times.

I was going to suggest minraising as well. This looks like one of the few scenarios where it might be the optimal play.

Advantages to just calling are

- garbage hands might fold
- semi-decent hands probably call, and probably lose another bet or whole stack to us
- people behind us are most likely to go away, there's less risk of a multiway pot.
