About your worst case is that you are 60% to double up (one guy has AA and the other two have KK and QQ and you are 60% to split the pot) other wise you are beter than 60% to 4x up (unless one guy is playing low pairs and SCs then it drops to 55% but still great odds). Damn good odds and better than any other chance you will have in the tournament.

even if yo uare a small ball play and can exploit tells, there is a limit to how over you can double up or bust. I did the math before on different ROIs in large field tourneys for the different percentages, and it goes up insanely high very quickly.

maybe we have to agree to disagree here.

to have a 55% chance of quadrupling, you have to have (roughly) a 75% chance of doubling.

i'm guessing if you offered the good chip accumulors (e.g., Mizrachi, Negreanu, Smith, Juanda, etc.) $10 million if they could meet this standard over a certain period of time against current "typical" fields in Bellagio-style deep double-stack (e.g., 20k) well-structured tourneys, i think they could do it.

of course, all tourneys aren't that style and none of use are as good as those guys, but i'm just trying to say that a deep stack in the hands of a skilled and motivated player affords a huge edge.
