Playing in the $20+2 MTT on Stars just now. We started at around 700, down to about 160. I have an above average stack and have been playing fairly aggressively. For the sake of avoiding embarassment, I'm not going to reveal my hole cards for this hand. Just know that they were trash.
I'm in the SB with blinds at 100/200 and antes of 25. It's folded to the button who makes a raise of 400. I have seen him to this almost everytime it is folded to him in CO or button and he already had a showdown with a shortstack and he had J3s. I had been waiting to put some pressure on him since I did not want my blind being stolen everytime. I made it 1800 to go. He had a stack of aroun 5k after the raise. I had about 6k after my re-raise. To my surprise, the BB, who had been playing pretty tight-weak, calls after asking for Time and taking it all the way down. At this point I was almost sure he had AK; the reason why I was quick to put him on AK is because almost everytime where I see a re-raise being smooth called in this type of situation is with AK. I felt that had he QQ he would have moved in, and with JJ or below he would have folded. Regardless, the flop came K-J-6 rainbow. I decided to bet out 2k to see if he would raise me, which I felt he would do if he had AK. He just called. The turn brought a 5, putting out the heart draw. I went all-in for 4k, which is exactly the same amount he had. Although I had been playing aggressively, I had been showing down strong hands and making disciplined laydowns in key situations. I knew my opponent knew this since we had played several pots together. Thus, I honestly felt that he could not call me if he had a set, given that I was clearly representing AA the whole way.
The result of this hand, to me, is less important than my play itself. Does anyone think I picked the right time to pull off a bluff? I had not shown this much strength in any hand during my 20minutes at the table and felt that I could make a move here as we were nearing the money.
