Another newbie Question about pot equity

Postby bigwheell » Sun Oct 14, 2007 1:56 pm

Is this a reasonalble play to the rest of you more experianced Omaha players...

I ran it thought the Omaha calculator that someone posted for me and it gave me a 69% equity when I got my chips in...

Basically means I was 2-1 to win right, or close to it?...

Just want to make sure that I am understanding this right...

It's a fair play here as his preflop re-raise puts him solidly on high cards - the best he can really have is an overpair plus flush draw, against which you're only a slight dog, and if he will stack off with any AA hand here, against his "range" (the total number of hands he'll play like this - basically any AA, including the ones with flush draws) you're a bit better than 50% equity, so it's a solid push. Of course, it's vaguely possible he has a set, but not really likely enough for it to come into your thoughts at this stack depth (if, say, there's enough money for 3 or 4 raises, it's more of a factor).

In a normal situation (i.e. no re-raise) I'm less inclined to felt it with a decent wrap when there's a flush draw out; you're going to be a dog in that situation to virtually any hand containing the flush draw, and you don't have the benefit of your opponent making a possible ugly push with a naked AA, as he did here. So don't feel you have to push or make big raises with every reasonable wrap hand you see - this is only a powerful hand because we can put him quite strongly on AA, or some other high-card-orientated hand.
