My worst downswing ever was -16 buyins (playing Fullring). Maybe that can provide some help....

Yeah, I went on something like a $3.5 or 4k downswing at the start of the year, in a combo of 100, 200, 400 and 500 buyins. I think it was mostly 200, which would make it somewhere in the 15-20 buyin range. That's uncommon in PLO, especially in the weaker games you'll be playing at the 50 level, but 6-max is more swingy than full ring (which I generally play), but you'll probably run into a stretch like that every few years if you play semi-regularly. I've had a couple of 10+ buyin downswings too.

So 20 is enough if you can happily move down when you lose 5 or more, but I'd prefer to have an absolute minimum of 30 at any given level if my BR is irreplaceable, as a VERY rough rule of thumb. But really, there's no off-the-cuff answer which can give you an accurate estimate - it really depends on the variance of the game you play in. 6-max, aggro games, and highly aggressive styles will lead to more variance and possibly bigger downswings.

I think that I will start taking shots at the next level when I get to 30 buy in's for the next level...Hopefully I should have that by the end of the month.

Thanks guys...
