The dreaded underfull...

Postby stickdude » Thu Jun 29, 2006 12:07 am

I had just been stacked a few hands before when I flopped two pair against what I thought was AA (which turned out to be the same two pair + straight draw).

PokerStars Pot-Limit Omaha High, $0.25 BB (7 handed) from (Format: Bet The Pot)

CO ($24)
Button ($23.90)
SB ($45.30)
BB ($23.25)
UTG ($24.75)
Hero ($25)
MP2 ($73.15)

Preflop: Hero is MP1 with [9s], [7c], [Td], [8s].
UTG calls $0.25, Hero calls $0.25, MP2 raises to $1.35, 2 folds, SB calls $1.25, BB calls $1.10, UTG calls $1.10, Hero calls $1.10.

Flop: ($6.75) [9c], [9h], [Jc] (5 players)
SB checks, BB checks, UTG checks, Hero checks, MP2 bets $5.25, SB folds, BB folds, UTG calls $5.25, Hero calls $5.25.

Turn: ($22.50) [Ts] (3 players)
UTG bets $18.15 (All-In), Hero ?????

He could be betting a straight, he could be betting a bigger full house... Do I want to spend the rest of my second stack to find out?

My theory (with influence from ATE) for flops like that with your hand is that you have to bet out on the flop to find out where you are. If you get called, you need to be extremely cautious to put any more money in the pot. After being called on the flop, I would try to get to showdown as cheaply as possible including checking down all the way. Even if you improve (unless it is quads), it still could be a loser to 9J or JJ.

At the PL 25 level, you will find better spots to get your money in than this.

Is has been a while since we have had an ATE reference so I thought I would throw that one it.
