Three $50 PLO8 hands

Postby Ted » Wed Jul 19, 2006 2:39 am

Here are three hands where I made some questionable decisions:

Paradise Poker PLO8 $0.25/$0.50
9-10 handed, mostly full-stacked
The table had a VP$IP of 40% and PFR of 5%

#1
Pre-flop: (9 players) Hero is MP1 with [As][Ah][Jc][7c]
UTG folds, UTG+1 calls, Hero raises to $2.25, 6 folds, UTG+1 calls.

Flop: [6c] [9c] [5d] ($5.25, 2 players)
UTG+1 checks, Hero bets $5.25, UTG+1 calls.

I continuation bet at weakness with possibly the best hand.

Turn: [6h] ($15.75, 2 players)
UTG+1 bets $15.75, Hero...?

My aces and flush draw are probably no good here. Easy fold?

#2
Pre-flop: (9 players) Hero is BB with [Ad][2s][4c][9h]
UTG folds, UTG+1 calls, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, MP3 folds, CO raises to $1, Button folds, SB calls, Hero raises to $5, UTG+1 calls, 2 folds, CO calls, SB calls.

Flop: [9d] [2h] [6h] ($21, 4 players)
SB checks, Hero...?

I hit two pair and the second nut low. Easy pot?

#3
Pre-flop: (10 players) Hero is Button with [Ac][2d][2h][Th]
3 folds, MP1 calls, MP2 folds, MP3 calls, CO folds, Hero raises to $2.75, 2 folds, MP1 calls, MP3 calls.

Flop: [5s] [7h] [4d] ($9, 3 players)
MP1 checks, MP3 is all-in $8.75, Hero...?

I'm probably behind, but I'm getting 2:1 with the nut low. Easy call?

#1 yeah... fold is probably called for unless villain is blufftastic.

#2 pfrr oop is not so smart. i'd go crazy on the flop unless some ubertight player starts getting happy.

#3 i don't like the pfr for value (this hand kinda sucks), but i do like it as a positional raise if you know how to steal. on the flop, i'd flat call due to the fact that there's a fair bit of dead money in the pot, and i'm guessing villain has a str8 but probably not a nut low. if you get quartered by a short stack, so what. if stacks were deeper, i'd consider laying it down.

My first though was a call on #3 is spewing here. You are calling $8.75 to win what, half of the existing $9 that was in before the flop? If you don't get quartered or cfeited, that is. You can't improve for high without losing your low, (barring the backdoor T-high flush) so why call? Then I looked at the numbers and am having 2nd thoughts.

Made str8 and another A2:
http://twodimes.net/h/?z=1842061
pokenum -o8 ac 2d 2h th - 3s 6c 9d td - as 2s 4h kd -- 5s 7h 4d
Omaha Hi/Low 8-or-better: 666 enumerated boards containing 5s 4d 7h
cards scoop HIwin HIlos HItie LOwin LOlos LOtie EV
Ac 2d Th 2h 0 48 618 0 0 87 579 0.253
3s 6c Td 9d 68 566 100 0 87 579 0 0.490
As 2s Kd 4h 0 52 614 0 0 87 579 0.256

Made str8 only:
http://twodimes.net/h/?z=1842063
pokenum -o8 ac 2d 2h th - 3s 6c 9d td -- 5s 7h 4d
Omaha Hi/Low 8-or-better: 820 enumerated boards containing 5s 4d 7h
cards scoop HIwin HIlos HItie LOwin LOlos LOtie EV
Ac 2d Th 2h 47 73 747 0 660 160 0 0.447
3s 6c Td 9d 134 747 73 0 160 660 0 0.553

Almost looks like you are better off pushing to try and get heads up, no? The times you suck out with your backdoor flush will offset the times you get scooped?

I had a similar hand last night vs BBP that was along the lines of something like this. He made a horrible call against my checkraise and as it turned out he was almost a 2:1 favorite against me with a weak 2nd nut low (I had 2 pr).
