Thoughts on turn river - 6max

Postby OyvindG » Tue Mar 28, 2006 6:20 am

I decided to learn multitabling a few weeks ago after Party launched their new software with resizables. I figured I'd probably suck since I've always played 1 table. Therefore, I'm starting out playing 4 1-2 tables instead of my usual 3-6/5-10. I was surprised to see that the opposition on that level was nothing like what I've expected. Sure, they suck, but they seem to be weak tight postflop instead of the calling stations I had prepared for(which are present as well, by all means, just not in the numbers I thought). This was my first session at the level so I might be mistaking of course.

Anyways, this wasn't the reason I posted this in the first place. I wanted to get some comments about a few hands I believe I played badly due to stress.

Party Poker
Limit Holdem Ring game
Limit: $1/$2
6 players

Stack sizes:
UTG: $55.13
Hero: $148.87
CO: $45.38
Button: $90.65
SB: $29.75
BB: $46

Pre-flop: (6 players) Hero is UTG+1 with [Ad] [Kd]
UTG folds, Hero raises, CO calls, Button calls, SB folds, BB calls.

Flop: [2d] [Kc] [8c] (8.5SB, 4 players)
BB bets, Hero raises, CO calls, Button folds, BB calls.

Turn: [Jd] (7.25BB, 3 players)
BB bets, Hero calls, CO calls.

River: [As] (10.25BB, 3 players)
BB bets, Hero raises, CO folds, BB calls.

Results:
Final pot: 14.25BB
Hero shows Ad Kd
BB doesn't show 2s 8s

I think it's played fine up until the turn which might be fine as well. I'm wondering if I should have raised him on the turn since I picked up the draw. I didn't because I was afraid only my flush outs were clean. This reasoning makes me really wonder what I was thinking on the river raising him without my flush. He really could have had the set a lot of times there.

Another AK hand, way too passively played by villain of course. I'm not as unhappy about this as the first one. You don't slow down without resistance here, do you?

Hand 1

absolutely raise the turn unless you know that he NEVER bets without 2pr or better. i would think Kx would be just as likely to do this.

Hand 2

i would say that i more or less don't slow down without resistance. some players like to call-call-raise when they are facing aggression when they think they're ahead. actually, this is not necessarily a bad idea, as a raise might have made you fold. anyway, you have to be aware of these kinds of players and adjust your play accordingly. fwiw, i would consider CRing on the flop or turn given that you are OOP.

Hand 1 raise on the turn unless you have some really good read that tells you otherwise. Most of the time this guy will just have top pair with bad kicker cause he didn't reraise you preflop. This, of course, presumes he's a decent player. Hand 2 I like the check raise line, but firing every street is good too if he's not a calling station.

Be glad your opponents refuse to fold; if they didn't, you just might go broke.
