Straight on flush board

Postby k3nt » Thu Feb 17, 2005 9:13 am

Really not sure what I should have done on this one.

Dealt [Th][9d] on the button and limp in to a 6-way flop. Nice, loose, & passive. Just the way I like it.

Flop comes [8c][7c][6c]. Checked to me. I'm hoping nobody flopped the flush. Trying to make anybody with one big club pay for their draw, I bet full pot. Called in one place. Turn is a blank. He checks it to me.

What's your play on the turn? What are you thinking for the river?

What do you think about my flop bet?

Thanks for any & all help.

What's the reasoning behind this, ice?

And what would you do if after betting the pot he (a) called, (b) min-raised?

Well, I did what Iceman said, more or less. I made a big bet on the turn. He called. Now what?

Well, I'll tell you what you shouldn't do: make another big bet on the river. But I did. And of course he had the K-high flopped flush. [Kc][5c]. Sigh. He never bet it at all, just called my generous bets all the way down. Typical passive play.

This hand was the start of a downward spiral into MADNESS! MADNESS I TELL YOU!!!

It seems like every big hand I get is being beaten. And every time it happens, I can't believe it just happened again, so I tend to call even the big bets that tell me I'm beat.

Fortunately, I am the type of person to QUIT playing when I start getting clobbered, before I tilt too much away. But dammit this stinks.

I just flopped another top straight. I re-raised big on the flop, so the guy didn't have the odds to call, but of course he wasn't laying down top set just because I was representing the made straight. Then on the turn, the board paired, and I could tell I was probably beaten, but I refused to let myself believe it where it counted -- on my mouse finger. Crap. There goes another buy-in.

I was up over 4 buy-ins this week, and it's all gone. So I'm down about a buck for the week. Not the end of the world or anything, but pissing me off. These players are so terrible and I am actually feeding them money!?!? Wow.

Going to try to take the rest of the day off and get my head in a better place.
