2 Hands - Opionions on my play

Postby bbj » Mon Feb 28, 2005 12:02 pm

Both of these hands were at home game SNGs. I'd like comments on how the hands played out. I'm Seat 4 in both hands.

Hand 1 - mid game - 5 of 10 players left

Seat 1 with 11500
Seat 2 with ?
Seat 3 with ?
Seat 4 with 10000
Seat 5 with 7500
The button is at seat 5

Seat 1 posts the small blind of 400.
Seat 2 posts the big blind of 800.

Seat 4: 10h 9h

Pre-flop:
Seat 3 folds
Seat 4 calls
Seat 5 calls
Seat 1 calls
Seat 2 checks.

Flop (board: Jh 8c 4h)

Seat 1 goes all in
Seat 2 folds

The early position call preflop might have been a bit loose with T9s but post-flop I've got 17 outs, 9 to the flush and 8 to the straight. I put Seat 1 on a set. After much deliberation I folded. Seat 5 called. Turn was Ad and River was x. Seat 1 head AA, Seat 5 AJo so I wouldn't have hit any of my outs. Should I have folded or played?

Hand 2 - late game - 4 of 10 players left

Seat 1 with ?
Seat 2 with ?
Seat 3 with 14000
Seat 4 with 10500

Button is Seat 2
Seat 3 posts the small blind of 1000
Seat 4 posts the big blind of 2000

Seat 4: KJs

Pre-flop:
Seat 1 folds
Seat 2 folds
Seat 3 calls
Seat 4 raises to 5000
Seat 3 goes all in
Seat 4 calls all in

My reasoning here was that I've only got 5 big blinds left in my stack and a reasonable heads-up hand. Seat 3 limped in and usually will raise with a strong hand so put him on a small pair or small suited connectors. He had 22 and the flop, turn and river didn't help me. Busted again. Was this an ok play?

I have no problem with either hand.

Hand 1: Seat one overbets the pot by a lot and you don't have anything. Its one thing to push with a draw, especially a big one because they might fold. Its another to call with a draw because you one have one way to win, hit your hand. I would fold and wait.

Hand 2: With the blinds and stacks they way they were, You can't really sit around waiting and many times people will fold to your raise. I might have just gone all in instead of just raising because you are committed to the pot anyway. Unless seat 3 actually thought you would fold to his all-in, all the chips were going in anyway so its just tough luck.

Hand #1 I would have not played at this stage but that is just me there are others that would go all in with this hand pre flop. You played it right by folding it to the all in bet.

Hand #2 without knowing what the other 2 players stacks are I don't know if your short stacked or not. Again your faced with calling a all in bet with a drawing hand. I would like to see the flop for free and then bet out if it is checked to me. But if I am going to raise then it's all in pre flop.

Good luck,
Kowboy

That sounds like good play from you in the home game environment.

Online, in hand #2, I would either raise less or go all in, but in a home game the psychology of being 'pot committed" is alot different for most opponents, so your move is alright. Nicely done.
