PP $11 -Heads up hand

Postby SNGfan » Mon Apr 17, 2006 9:23 pm

PartyPoker $11 Regular Tournament, Big Blind is t600 (2 handed)

Hero (t1805)
BB (t18195)

Preflop: Hero is in Button with 82s
Hero folds

HOH II says to always complete and not fold from the button when heads up. I was hoping to get something better than this and ended up with 87o on the next hand and went out in 2nd.

I think I should have pushed all in with this hand I was dealt. What do you guys think. Its pretty much hopeless at this point. Thanks for any thoughts.

You are short enough that you have odds to push with any 2. (1500 to win 3600) If BB is known to fold his junk hands in this spot, then even better, as your EV goes up if he folds occasionally. Hoping for a better hand next time isn't terrible either. You are pot committed next hand though, so pray hard for a winner.

This really is a situation where an argument could be made for either play. If there is a chance BB folds, I push for sure. If not, I probably push anyway. I'd rather take my pot odds and go down as the aggressor.

Another thing HoH says and that I think some people forget in the heat of battle (and I include myself in this category sometimes as well), is that even with a hand as horrid as [8c] [2c] , you're only a 1.5-1 dog to something as good as [Ah] [Qh] . You've locked up second place, you're not going to get anymore money by folding anything - I push/call all in with ATC a few times - until your chips are close to even.

Are any of you guys using sngpt to figure out the EV of push/fold?

I just purchased it last night and have to get to work with it. :D

No software. Just the "old fashioned" method - cranial-based calculations with help from reading books like HOH and experience.
