Is this a good call...?

Postby MVPSPORTS » Wed Mar 16, 2005 5:40 pm

I've started using Gaming Club after being recommended by several of you here... I did allright at the 1/2 NL... made about $100, which is better than the tailspin I've been on lately... I had this hand pretty soon after sitting down... Wanted to make sure that it was a good call (I won the hand w/ a flush, so obviously it was a good call :D ). I just wanted to make sure my odds were good for it.... I was on an inside straight flush draw and a low flush draw. The reason I didn't bet more on the river was because it was a pretty low flush, and I figured there was a good chance he would have only called for a lot of money if he had me beat... I guess it was a value bet... He mucked, but the way he paused before he called the river, I'm pretty sure he had the straight or trips... Sorry this history doesn't look better, but I couldn't figure out how to use the converter...

Figured I could've bet more on the river, but I think if I overbet, he would've folded... he waited till the last possible second to call the $15...

That really is a deceptive draw, it looks like you have a big draw but in reality you dont, you really dont want to make the straight unless it is the diamond, you have a low flush draw. The way the hand was bet, you played it right thought if your opponant bets big on the flop or the turn you have to fold.

I would have done the same thing you did,

the other play I would have done is to check in order to induce a bluff.

Checking to induce a bluff works better at Gaming Club than anywhere else Ive ever played.

Checking to induce a bluff works great in a lot of cases; I don't think this is one of them. Checking to induce a bluff usually works when you think the other player is drawing and has called you down to the river. At this point, you may have no reason to bet your TP because you think your opponent has a busted draw, and the only way to squeeze more money out of him is to let him bluff. In this case, villian was the one doing all the betting. I somehow doubt that he was betting small on the flop and turn with a draw. He more likely has something like an 8 or a 9 and would probably check behind on the river when a MAJOR scarecard hits on the river. Both the Ace and the diamond should scare him for separate reasons, and I don't see him betting the river in most cases.
