SH: The power of the preflop raise

Postby MecosKing » Thu Mar 17, 2005 4:59 pm

I recommend an agressive preflop strategy in many circumstances (like the ones i wrote about earlier) and aggressive blind stealing.

I used PT to filter out EVERY hand i preflop raised, and then bet out at the pot on the flop. (Pocket pairs are excluded from the filter)

I found that Every ace (with the exception of A4o and AQs [dunno why that is] and A2 (which i muck even on the button, for some reason) shows a profit, Every king (down to k6s) (Except for KQ and K10s strangely) Every Q (downto Q8s, except for QK) and Every Jack down to J7 shows a long term profit, in these scenerios.

It shows a net of 11k for these hands in profit. (Of course, this includes AK and other good ones.)

And, only 50% of the time or so did it go to showdown.

What this shows, i think, is that in the long term, aggressive positional play is the way to go in SH, if you can handle the swings.

PT rules.

Just for reference - how many hands do you have in your database for short handed stats. These numbers could indicate just how long term we are talking about (if its only 10k - I don't think its very special; at 100k obviously there's more data to support your observations).

In any case, that's an interesting set of statistics. I find it surprising to raise J7 in a short handed situation (though heads-up I think I'm fine with that). When you did your research did you only include 6-handed hands - or anything 6-handed or smaller (and so would include some heads-up hands)?
